KUALA LUMPUR (June 14): Malaysia's new Covid-19 cases dropped to eight as of noon today from 43 yesterday, which raises the country's total confirmed Covid-19 infections to 8,453.
Two of the new cases were imported and involved permanent residents here, according to Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah during his daily Covid-19 briefing today.
Of the six locally transmitted cases, four involved Bangladeshi construction workers from what is now known as the 'second construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur', which was first detected late last month when 44 workers were found positive.
As for the remainder two cases, they were Malaysians – one from Bintulu, Sarawak and one from Melaka.
Meanwhile, 35 more recoveries were recorded, which pushed the recovery tally to 7,346, or 86.9% of total cases.
One more death was also reported today – a 67-year-old man from India who had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease. He was a detainee at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot.
This means the death toll from the outbreak in the country now stands at 121.
This leaves Malaysia with less than 1,000 active cases, at 986.
