KUALA LUMPUR (March 26): Genting Malaysia Bhd said several of its resorts will continue to be closed, following the announcement of the extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO) up to April 14 by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday.
In a filing today, the group said Resorts World Genting, Resorts World Awana, Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi will remain closed during the extended MCO period.
“Operations in our resorts will resume upon the lifting of the MCO. We will continue to assess the situation on a daily basis and make the necessary announcements as more information becomes available,” it said.
“We regret any inconvenience caused by the extended closure of our resorts. We thank you for your support and understanding as we work together towards the prevention of Covid-19,” added Genting Malaysia.
Additionally, the group’s land-based casinos in the UK and Resorts World Birmingham are also temporarily closed, following the UK prime minister’s national address to limit the spread of Covid-19, until further notice.
At 12.30pm, Genting Malaysia shares rose three sen or 1.6% to RM1.93, giving it a market capitalisation of RM10.91 billion.
