KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 19): Some 1,749 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in China yesterday.

Via a Facebook post, the Chinese embassy here said out of the newly confirmed cases its 31 provinces and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported, there were 136 new deaths and 236 severe cases.

Of the deaths, 132 were in Hubei, and one each in Heilongjiang, Shandong, Guangdong and Guizhou.

Additionally, there were 1,185 new suspected cases.

In terms of recoveries, 1,824 new cases were cured and discharged, and 25,014 people have been released from medical observation.

“As of 24:00 on Feb 18, there were 57,805 confirmed cases (among which 11,977 [were] severe cases), 14,376 people had been discharged from hospital after recovery, 2,004 cases of death and 5,248 suspected cases. The National Health and Health Commission had received a total of 74,185 confirmed cases. 574,418 close contacts had been tracked. 135,881 people were receiving medical observation,” the embassy said.
