KUALA LUMPUR (May 17): Rapper Pras Michel said in Washington yesterday that he is innocent of criminal charges that he conspired to funnel funds into Barack Obama’s 2012 presidential re-election, reported Reuters.

Michel was in the US District Court for the District of Columbia court to be charged by US authorities yesterday.

“I’m totally innocent and my lawyer’s going to handle the whole trial and we’re in full compliance,” he was reported saying by Reuters.

The ex-Fugees rapper also said that he does not plan to take a plea deal if offered and that “every issue and everything that has been said around here” will be addressed on his new “nine-track extended-play album”.

Reuters also reported that Michel pleaded not guilty to the charges and his attorney told the judge “he plans to file motions to dismiss the indictment”.

Michel remains free on bond “to travel to his homes in California and Florida”.

US prosecutors have accused Malaysian fugitive business man/dealmaker Jho Low of funnelling US$21.6 million (RM90 million) to Michel, who then gave US$865,000 to 20 people to donate to committees supporting Obama's 2012 re-election campaign, Bloomberg reported.
