PETALING JAYA (Oct 18): Rosmah Mansor has been issued a notice to present herself next week, by the Anti-money Laundering and Anti-terrorism Financing Prevention Unit (Amla) at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent.

Malaysiakini reports that a lawyer who represented the former prime minister’s wife confirmed that Rosmah would give her statement to the police on Oct 25.

The statement would be recorded at Menara KPJ on Jalan Tun Razak.

The news portal reports that the notice does not state why she is being summoned, and simply says it is to facilitate investigations under Amla.

Rosmah, who received the notice yesterday, is currently facing 17 money-laundering charges, 12 of which are charges of depositing a total of RM7.097 mil from unlawful activities into her personal account. The remaining five charges of the charges are for failing to declare a total of RM7.097 mil as required by the Income Tax Act.

The lawyer, who chose to remain anonymous, was quoted by the news portal as saying: "But we believe it is related to the seized items, notably the jewellery.”

In June, it was reported that police had seized jewellery items worth RM440 million from Najib-linked properties in their investigations into 1MDB.

Jewellery seized were 1,400 necklaces, 2,200 rings, 2,100 bangles, 2,800 earrings, 1,600 brooches and 14 tiaras.
