KUALA LUMPUR (September 6): Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will begin issuing summonses to motorists who double-park in Taman Usahawan Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, today.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng was quoted by The Star as saying that a five-storey parking complex that cost RM2 a day provided the area with ample space for parking, but double-parking was still common.
“Stern action needs to be taken. We have no choice but to take harsh measures to deter stubborn motorists.
“Because of laziness, these motorists would rather park in front of shops and inconvenience others,” he said.
Enforcement would be carried out at Jalan Metro Perdana Barat 2, Jalan Metro Perdana Timur 2, Jalan Metro Perdana Timur 3, Jalan Metro Perdana Barat 7, Jalan Metro Perdana 1 and Jalan Rimbunan Raya 1.
“After two weeks, we will study the situation and if there is no improvement, enforcement will continue,” he said, as quoted by the daily.
A resident who lived in the area said the five-storey parking facility was usually empty. A businessman in the area said that congestion caused by the double-parking was a serious issue that needed to be addressed.
