PETALING JAYA (August 29): Low-cost housing PPR Lembah Subang residents want the implementation of the rent-to-own scheme.

The Malaysian Insight reports that at a dialogue last night with PAS candidate for the Seri Setia by-election, Dr Halimah Ali, residents aired their issues.

The news portal quoted a resident, who said the rent-to-own scheme was part of the previous government’s plan and hoped it would be implemented.

“We no longer want to rent. We want to own it.

“If you (Halimah) become the assemblyman, maybe there will be a check and balance and I hope the issue will be made a priority,” she said.

Another resident, Mohamad Raya Ali, 41, said: “We have voted again and again, but we are still renting.

“Those from the earlier generation are also urging the same.”

Halimah response was that the residents should urge the government to fulfill their request.

“Gather all of your voices and let it be a loud one,”   she was quoted as saying, to cheers from the crowd of 30.

Halimah said the government was responsible for ensuring that those who were less fortunate get a house.

“Of course, it is up to the government but it is possible to be done,” she said to reporters.

Another resident said the main focus in the PPR should be the education for children in the area.

Halimah assured the residents that if the party wins the Seri Setia by-election, she will meet with all stakeholders to improve the area surrounding the low-cost units.

“We will find out what is crucial and needs immediate attention.”

The by-election will be held simultaneously with the Balakong by-election on September 8.
