KLANG (August 7): The 1MDB legal team appointed to represent both the investment firm and Putrajaya by the Attorney-General’s Chambers said the timeline of determining the owner of the Equanimity is six to nine months.

Free Malaysia Today (FMT) quotes Lawyer Jeremy M Joseph who said a serious contest for ownership would see the matter resolved sooner.

“But the courts will do that. Now, we are seeking the declaration (of ownership).

“We are also asking for an order for sale of the vessel because it is quite expensive to maintain the vessel,” he said, according to the news portal, in Port Klang today following the arrival of the superyacht from Indonesia.

Maintaining the luxury yacht would cost about RM 3 million a month.

At about 12.15pm today, the Equanimity, escorted by marine police patrol boats, was docked at the Boustead Cruise Centre terminal in Pulau Indah.

Describing the yacht, Joseph said it was “classy”, a combination of timber and marble finishing.

Sitpah Selvaratnam, another lawyer representing the case, told FMT that the legal team was in the yacht for about two-and-a-half hours.

“We are not in a position to tell you what exactly we found on the vessel,” she said.

At present, the vessel is under the jurisdiction of the courts. It cannot be moved, nor any activity take place within it without the permission of the courts.
