KUALA LUMPUR (August 7): If the proposed development takes up any portion of the park, it will not be allowed, said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad.

In a meeting with representatives from Taman Tun Dr Ismail Residents’ Association (RA), The Malaysian Insight (TMI) quotes Khalid as saying: “They’re not happy with what’s happening (regarding) the project that Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan has embarked on.

“I have already informed Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan to relook the proposed plan.

“If it takes up a portion of the park, definitely I will not allow it.

“But if it is an issue where further clarification is needed, then I would have to wait for it (first),” he said.

TMI reports that Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh posted on her Facebook account on Sunday, saying she had arranged a lunch meeting between four representatives from the RA and Khalid.

“It was good for the FT Minister to hear why Taman Rimba Kiara is so important to the community in TTDI & Kuala Lumpur. The TTDI RA reps presented a succinct summary & chronology,” posted Yeoh.

Khalid recently said the contract for a high-rise development at the park will be reviewed by the ministry.

Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan’s chair is former federal territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

The news portal reports that the proposed development involves construction of eight blocks of 42- and 52-storey high-end service apartments and one 30-storey block of affordable housing.

It was previously reported that Yeoh lodged a report with MACC against Tengku Adnan over the project, investigation has begun but MACC has yet to get back to her on the matter.
