KUCHING (July 25): The launch of a new app has made it easier for the public to access land information and services such as lease renewal and premium payment, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Called Mobile Lasis, it is the mobile version of the Land and Survey Information System (Lasis) from the Land and Survey Department.

“This is in line with the state government’s initiative to provide services to the people at their fingertips,” he said at the launch yesterday, reported the Star.

Customers are now able to buy survey maps through the application, said Abang Johari.

“We should take advantage of the latest technology to serve the people better. I hope other government departments will follow suit and develop mobile apps for their services,” he said to the Star.

Department director Zaidi Mahdi said Lasis was developed in 1984, to integrate services of surveying, town and regional planning, property valuation and land administration.

Work in the department went from manual to fully computerised with the system, he said.

The daily said that the web version, eLasis, was introduced in 2010. It included online services like eSearch (sale and search of land title information), eMap (sale of plans and cartographic maps), eLodgement (online lodgment of land instruments by law firms) and eSubmission (online submission of survey jobs by private surveyors).

“This year we developed a mobile version which is interactive, easy to use and offers several new services,” Zaidi said.

The app allows search by landmarks, unique parcel identifier or subject lot.

Currently available on the Google Playstore or the App store, it will also allow users to purchase maps, apply for renewal of land lease, view land rent or premium details and make payments, and compute premium charges for change of land use from agriculture to residential.
