PETALING JAYA (July 18): Effective Oct 1, 2018, AirAsia will expand its Johor Bahru domestic network, adding Alor Setar and Ipoh as new destinations, reported Bernama.

Departing from Senai International Airport, AirAsia Malaysia will fly four times per week, to both destinations. These new routes mark the 10th and 11th domestic routes available.

The flight to Ipoh will be the first service of the low-cost carrier to the capital of Perak.

An opportunity to strengthen the economies of Johor, Kedah and Perak through increased tourism would spring from the boost of connectivity between the southern and northern states, said AirAsia Malaysia Head of Commercial Spencer Lee.

"We are thrilled to start flying to Ipoh and look forward to painting the city red come October,” said Lee in a statement, as reported by Bernama

AirAsia is currently offering promotional fares all-in, available until July 29, 2018 in celebration of the expansion, from RM69 one-way from Johor Bahru to Alor Setar, and from RM59 one-way from Johor Bahru to Ipoh. The promotional all-in-fares quoted are for one-way travel only inclusive of taxes and fees.

The promotion is for travel between Oct 1, 2018 and Aug 13, 2019, and can be found on airasia.com and the AirAsia mobile application.

AirAsia Malaysia now flies to 16 destinations from Johor Bahru — Bangkok, Jakarta, Surabaya, Ho Chi Minh City, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kuala Terengganu, Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Alor Setar and Ipoh.
