KUALA LUMPUR (July 17): It started with 64 plots of land but the graft busters are now zeroing in their probe to 16 plots.

These lands belonging to KL City Hall (DBKL) had allegedly been sold without going through the process of open tender during the administration of ex-federal territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in May 16 to investigate the issue.

According to Lim back then, the 64 lands have a combined area of 424.29 acres and a total transaction value of RM4.28 billion.

Less than half of the lands were sold for Federal Territories Affordable Housing (RUMAWIP) development while the rest were meant for expensive residential and commercial products priced at market value, he alleged.

Later on June 5, it was reported that the MACC seized documents connected to the sale of the 64 plots from DBKL’s premises.

Tengku Adnan has denied the allegation that he transferred state land to private developers.

“As of last week, 48 plots have been cleared by the MACC.

“They have cleared DBKL of all wrongdoing... even though the plots were sold without an open tender and at below the market prices.

“With the (remaining) 16, there are some issues with their land titles and payments – 10 of which have not been paid in full and their land titles have not been transferred (to the buyers) yet,” Malaysiakini reported Lim saying yesterday.

Lim, however, did not identify the 16 plots that are still under probe, but assured that “innocent parties caught up in the probe would have their names cleared”, he told the news portal.

“For those who are clean and not involved in corrupt practices, I will restore their good names and ensure their plots will be cleared by the MACC.

“But for those involved in any ‘hanky panky’, I will make sure they will be brought to book,” he told Malaysiakini.
