KUALA LUMPUR (July 11): The Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) is hoping for that the authorities will legalise foreign workers already employed by the construction sector, Bernama reported today.

But the body wants the government to repatriate those who are running illegal businesses. 

MBAM president Foo Chek Lee (pictured) said the industry has to address the issue of illegal workers already employed within it as they are trained and skilled workers. 

"Moreover, we really like to see the cost on recruitment of foreign workers decreasing and simplified for the betterment of the industry. 

"Besides, the levy paid by construction companies should be made in two instalments annually, as the burden is heavy on contractors, especially for smaller companies,” Bernama reported Foo as saying.

Foo is also the managing director of Pembinaan Mitrajaya Sdn Bhd.
