PETALING JAYA (July 4): Kedah will receive a further RM62 million from the federal government to complete its flood mitigation project, which is due to finish in 18 months, reported The Star.
The Sungai Kedah and Sungai Anak Bukit flood mitigation plan was 70% completed and the extra funds will go towards the construction of a diversion road for a bridge from Jalan Alor Seta to Kangar and another bridge along Jalan Alor Setar-Gunung Keriang, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
State exco member and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Zamri Yusuf said the Sungai Anak Bukit flood mitigation project would resolve flooding at a flood-prone area that affects 2,381 families.
Wan Azizah said since 2010, 46,000 flood victims have been relocated.
Meanwhile, the Sungai Muda flood mitigation project that was completed in 2015 has helped alleviate most flood problems in Kuala Muda.
Zamri said the restoration cost of the flooding of Sungai Kob in Kulim that left two dead on May 28 will cost RM5.9 million.
“I will study the Kulim and Padang Serai flood mitigation plans to resolve this,” he added.
