KUALA LUMPUR (July 4): Datuk Seri Najib Razak has arrived at the Jalan Duta Court Complex to become the the first Malaysian former prime minister to be charged at the court of law.

At about 8.15am Najib, dressed in blue, was escorted into the premise through a group of media personnels and supporters of the former premier.

Najib has been brought into the Sessions Court witness room, understood to face charges under the Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA) 2001.

The prosecution team is led by newly-appointed Attorney General Tommy Thomas.

The rest are deputy public prosecutors: Datuk Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria, Manoj Kurup, Datuk Suhaimi Ibrahim, Datuk Umar Saifuddin Jaafar, Datuk Ishak Mohd Yusoff, Donald Joseph Franklin, Muhammad Saifuddin Hashim Suhaimi, Budiman Lutfi Mohamed, Sulaiman Kho Kheng Fuei, Mohd Ashrof Adrin Kamarul, and Muhammad Izzat Fauzan

Meanwhile, Najib's defence team, led by senior lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, includes: Harvinderjit Singh, Datuk Raj Krishnan, Farhan Read Rahmat Hazlan, Muhamad Farhan Muhamad Shafee and Syahirah Hanapiah

Najib is also expected to be brought to the High Court later to face separate charges under the MACC Act 2009.

He will be charged before Sessions Court judge Zainal Abidin Kamaruddin, and later High Court judge Azman Abdullah.

A limited number of reporters were allowed into both court rooms. At the High Court entry, the situation is frenzied with reporters camping outside, amid tight police security.

At press time, several Umno leaders were present to give support to the former party president.

It was reported that Najib will be facing two to three charges of criminal breach of trust, after being arrested at his home on Tuesday by the MACC.
