KUALA LUMPUR (June 27): In the latest development over the planned luxury condominiums in Taman Wahyu, Kepong, the property developer has been urged to construct affordable homes and upgrade infrastructure in the area.

Taman Wahyu was in the news recently when it was reported on Saturday (June 16) that developer allegedly purchased the land at below market value from the authorities and the planned project had encroached the Jinjang flood retention pond.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said then that the 35.2ha land was sold at RM68 per sq ft on Nov 20, 2015, when the market value then was around RM250 per sq ft.

Kepong Community Service Centre head Yee Poh Ping said the suggestion to build affordable homes and extra infrastructure as well as upgrading roads to improve traffic flow in the area has been discussed during a meeting with Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa earlier, reported The Star daily.

“We met Dr Ali to ask for the project to be scrapped but this is unlikely to happen because the Federal Government will have to compensate the developer.

“Since the land was sold below market value, the developer should give back to society by including affordable homes in its project and improve the roads,” The Star reported Yee as saying.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has meanwhile issued a statement confirming the land reclamation work would not impact the pond’s capacity.

Yee also said that there were still no building plans as the parties involved had to come to a unanimous decision on various matters.

The Star also reported Yee saying that “further studies should be done on traffic management in the area as well as ensure the pond was working”.

“We want DBKL to impose specific conditions in the development order.
