KUALA LUMPUR (June 26): A law maker has come in support of the 1Borneo Hypermall, the Sabah mall that hit the limelight yesterday for having a massive RM9.3 million outstanding electricity bill.
Sepanggar member of parliament Datuk Azis Hamman today asked Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to reconsider its decision of cutting electricity supply of 1Borneo Hypermall “for the sake of people working there”, reported the New Straits Times.
“The people’s interest must come first,” said Azis, who is also Parti Warisan Sabah Wira chief.
“In this case, it is the workers employed in the various outlets who stand to lose the most.
“Shutting down the electricity supply will force the shops to close and their workers will lose their jobs.
“I want to help and I am willing to be a mediator so we can sit down and find a solution,” NST reported Azis as saying.
Yesterday, SESB Asset general manager Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said the mall has “until tomorrow (June 26) to pay”.
According to him, SESB has given the mall – one of the state’s largest – plenty of time to settle the bill.
“So, if they still refuse to pay their RM9.3mil electricity bill on Tuesday (June 26), we will disconnect the supply on Wednesday,” he said.
Mohd Yaakob said SESB had served the mall management several notices and also held discussions with them.
