PETALING JAYA (March 16): The KL Sentral-Subang Skypark rail service is expected to commence in early May, said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) chief operating officer Rani Hashim Samsudin.

In a Bernama report, he said the rail service will be a 28-minute journey with a stop in Subang Jaya before continuing directly to Subang Skypark.

“We are currently conducting the final tests on the trains as well as finalising the ticket price with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD),” he said.

The trains are expected to accommodate up to 300 passengers at once, and is intended to lighten traffic congestion and serve airline passengers and people working at the Skypark terminal.

The RM521 million rail link was commissioned in 2013 with an initial completion date in 2016, but this was extended to June 2017.

KTMB has also officially tied up with e-hailing ride application Grab to continue providing services for its passengers until their end mile.

“We hope with this latest extension and our partnership with Grab, we can continue to provide seamless public transportation to everyone,” said Rani Hashim.

Meanwhile, Grab Malaysia country head Sean Goh said KTMB passengers will be offered exclusive discounted rides during festive seasons and will be allocated designated pick-up and drop-off zones at all major KTMB stations.

Grab is Southeast Asia’s leading on-demand transportation and has drivers — including taxi and private drivers — for its GrabCar service.
