Overview

Formed in 1974, Gombak is one of the nine districts of Selangor. It has five sub-districts or mukim – Hulu Kelang, Setapak, Batu, Rawang and Ampang. There are four Parliamentary constitutions and nine State Legislative Assemblies in Gombak.

Gombak covers 65,008ha with a population of 682,226 as of 2010. Gombak has been rapidly growing in terms of economy and population rate, reasons include the proximity to Kuala Lumpur and being a part of the Klang Valley. Property industry in this district is catching up to the capital, and several infrastructure projects, especially highways, roads and transportation are said to be catalysts for its further growth.

Gombak is well-known for its tourist spots, namely Batu Caves, the Forest Research Institute Malaysia, Orang Asli Museum, Batu Dam, Tasik Biru Kundang, National Zoo and forest reserves and parks such as Hutan Lipur Bukit Lagong, Hutan Lipur Kanching, Hutan Lipur Sungai Tua, Templer Park and Commonwealth Forest Park.

Development of high-rise properties in Gombak has been growing in recent years, showing the high interest of city dwellers in acquiring properties here and the change of lifestyle of the locals.

Property developers are looking into Gombak as it offers potential and capital appreciation. Government initiatives such as the River of Life project and transportation projects such as the MRT are expected to give Gombak a boost for its property market.

Gombak has two government hospitals – Hospital Selayang and Hospital Sungai Buloh and several private hospitals and clinics, both government and private, covering all areas in the district.

Accessibility and Transportation

Gombak is highly accessible, thanks to its rapid growth of infrastructure. Located on the fringe of KL, Gombak enjoys the various major roads connecting to it. It is accessible via Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), Ampang-KL Elevated Highway (AKLEH), Middle Ring Road I and II (MRR I and MRR II), Guthrie Highway, North-South Highway (PLUS), and Damansara-Puchong Highway. There are a few proposed highways such as Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway, East Klang Valley Expressway and KL Outer Ring Road, which is expected to boost Gombak’s connectivity.

Gombak is also accessible via public transports such as buses, KTM, LRT and MRT.
