Malaysia’s new Covid-19 fatalities rise to 250 on Sept 24

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 25): Malaysia reported 250 new Covid-19 deaths on Friday (Sept 24), more than double the 116 logged the day before.

This brought the nation’s total coronavirus-linked fatalities to 24,931, according to the Health Ministry’s GitHub portal.

Of the new deaths, 49 were brought in dead (BID) cases, raising the country’s cumulative BID tally to 4,887.

The ministry noted that only nine of the 250 deaths were actual deaths reported for Friday, while the rest were backlog cases.

Selangor accounted for 65 of the new deaths on Friday, followed by Sabah (43), Johor (41), Penang (20), Sarawak (16), Kelantan (14), Perak (14), Pahang (nine), Kedah (six), Kuala Lumpur (six), Terengganu (six), Negeri Sembilan (four), Melaka (three) and Perlis (three). No deaths were reported in Putrajaya and Labuan.

Meanwhile, the ministry reported 16,751 new recoveries on Friday.

There were 195,837 active Covid-19 cases as of midnight on Friday. Of this, 1,055 patients were in intensive care units, including 595 on ventilators.

Malaysia’s cumulative Covid-19 cases as of Friday is 2.17 million.
